Congratulations go out to Saint Ignatius head coach Brian Becker '77 and his varsity golf team, which qualified for next weekend's OHSAA state tournament by finishing third in Wednesday's Division I Northeast District Tournament at Pine Hills.

The Wildcats shot 317 in finishing third, St. Edward fired a 303 in garnering its first district title in a decade and Walsh Jesuit was second at 311. The fourth and final state-qualifying spot was earned by Twinsburg, as the Tigers turned in a 320 effort.

State competition in Division I gets underway next Friday (Oct. 18) on the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University.

****HERE ARE COACH BECKER'S COMMENTS FROM HIS TEAM'S STATE QUALIFYING DAY, ALONG WITH THE WILDCATS' INDIVIDUAL SCORES.

From Coach Becker: Today, the varsity golf team qualified for the state tournament next week in Columbus. It was not the best golf that we have played this year, but it was good enough to put us in the state tournament where anything can happen at the prestigious Scarlet Course. The team was led by senior Jack Coyne, who turned in a credible 77, and junior Kevin Duncan, who chipped in a with a round of 79.

SAINT IGNATIUS' INDIVIDUAL SCORES: Jack Coyne 77, Kevin Duncan 79, PJ Malik 80, Harrison Vonderau 81 and Michael Vallee 84.
