Business as usual for our Jesuit brothers at state cross country meet. Joe Eitel now has all 16 Region 1 playoff qualifiers.

It was business as usual for Cincinnati St. Xavier on Saturday afternoon, as the Bombers raced to their second consecutive boys Division I State Cross Country Championship at the National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio. Overall, it was St. Xavier's fifth boys state cross country title. The Bombers' point total (46) was the second lowest in the history of the boys state meet. Mark Hadley of Boardman won the boys individual state race with a time of 15:10.

Computer playoff guru Joe Eitel is now reporting that Shaker Heights has wrapped up the 16th and final qualifying spot in the Division I, Region 1 football computer ratings.

Here are Eitel's Sweet 16.

1. St. Edward (8-1 clinched No. 1 seed with victory over Eastern Christian Academy); 2. Hudson 9-1; 3. Mentor 9-1; 4. Austintown Fitch 10-0; 5. Westerville Central 9- 1; 6. Canton McKinley 9-1; 7. Stow 9-1; 8. Wadsworth 9-1; 9. Cleveland Heights 9-1; 10. Elyria 7-3; 11. Solon 6-4; 12. Marysville 7-3; 13. Saint Ignatius 5-4; 14. Toledo Whitmer 6-4; 15. Brunswick 6-4 and 16. Shaker Heights 6-4.

Note that Saint Ignatius still has the potential of moving up a spot or two in Eitel's Saturday night wrap up.

*The official OHSAA first-round playoff pairings and sites will be released on Sunday.
