Saturday night's OHSAA third-round Division I, Region 1 football playoff game between the Saint Ignatius Wildcats (8-4) and the Mentor Cardinals (11-1) will be played at Byers Field in Parma's Robert M. Boulton Stadium. The kickoff will be 7 PM.

For the third consecutive season, the Wildcats and the Cardinals will be meeting in a Region 1 third-round or regional final match up. In 2011, Saint Ignatius, en route to its record 11th Division I state championship, defeated Mentor, 23-17, in the Region 1 final at Lakewood Stadium. Last season, in what was one of the greatest games in the history of the Ohio High School Athletic Association playoffs, Mentor eliminated the Wildcats, 57-56, in triple overtime in the Region 1 final at Byers Field. And now we're back for more on Ridge Road and Day Drive.

After defeating the Cardinals, 26-6, in a Week 2 encounter this season at Mentor's Jerome T. Osborne Sr. Stadium, Saint Ignatius leads the all-time series between the perennial big-school powers, 11-5. The Wildcats and the Cardinals also met in the OHSAA postseason in 1992 and 2003, with Saint Ignatius' undefeated state championship team of 1992 winning, 38-13, in a regional final at Baldwin-Wallace's Finnie Stadium and Mentor soaring to a 31-0 victory in a regional semifinal at Byers Field in 2003.

Mentor's drive to another successful fall has been fueled by its versatile and savvy quarterback, senior Conner Krizancic.

In Mentor's 43-0, second-round victory over Stow on Saturday night, Krizancic ran for three touchdowns, passed for one and caught a touchdown pass. Krizancic threw for 237 yards and carried the ball 10 times for 68 yards. Recruited by the University of Cincinnati as a wide receiver, Conner has thrown for more than 2,000 yards this fall and has rushed for more than 1,000 yards.

As always, Saturday night's game will be broadcast live over the Saint Ignatius Student Broadcasting Network, with the thrill-some threesome of Pat McGuire '14, Cole Larson '14 and Carter Spearry '16 on the call.
