The Ice Cats defeated the Eagles from Serra Catholic (PA), 10-0, on Saturday morning in the second round of the annual Walsh Jesuit Thanksgiving Invitational at Kent State University.

Saint Ignatius was coming off a 5-0 victory over the Bethel Park (PA) Blackhawks in Friday's opening round (see the corner's post from Friday).

Sophomore goalie Wes Deacon had one save in Saturday morning's shutout and junior right wing Matty Geither led the offensive barrage with three goals. Matty was coming off a two-goal effort against Bethel Park.

Also lighting the lamp were senior forward and captain Beck Schultz with two goals, senior defenseman Nick Gajkowski, senior forward Brian Fitzgerald, junior forward Kevin Yarcusko, junior forward Jack Mazanec, and sophomore center Aidan Spellacy. The Wildcats now stand 2-0-1 entering tonight's action.

FROM COACH PAT O'ROURKE: "The next two games will be very tough as Saint Ignatius takes on St. Michael (ONT) tonight at 7 and Toledo St. John's Jesuit tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 9. St. Michael is also 2-0 in the tournament, having defeated Holy Name, 3-2, last night and Padua, 11-2, this morning. St. John's Jesuit is the pre-season favorite to win states."

NOTE ON THE WILDCATS' RECORD: "Our game against University School (won by the Preppers in a shootout at Quicken Loans Arena on Nov. 22) will go down as a tie in the eyes of the state and as a shootout loss in the Great Lakes Hockey League. So I guess our overall record is 2-0-1 (entering Saturday night's game)." - Coach O'Rourke.
