SOPHOMORE WES DEACON IS SOLID IN GOAL AND THE DEFENSE RISES TO THE OCCASION IN THE CLOSING MINUTES OF SUNDAY'S FINAL-ROUND MATCH UP AT THE ANNUAL WALSH JESUIT THANKSGIVING INVITATIONAL AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY.

FROM WILDCATS OUTSTANDING HEAD COACH PAT O'ROURKE '90: "We won the tournament with a 3-0-1 record. Wes Deacon had 20 saves in the pipes. Matty Geither (junior right wing) scored our goal in the first period off a nice feed from Ethan Whitney (junior left wing).

"St. John's tied it on a power play goal in the second period," Coach O'Rourke continued. "We outshot them, 36-21. We had to kill off a 5-3 (advantage for the Titans) in the last two minutes to preserve the tie."

The Wildcats, who are now 3-0-2 overall (see the corner's Saturday post on the 'Cats-University School game), will face the Lancers from Gilmour Academy on Tuesday at the Brooklyn Ice Arena in the John M. Coyne Recreation Center. The puck will drop at 5 PM for what is a Great Lakes Hockey League match up.
