Ohio City - Saint Ignatius' winter sports teams will be all over the map this weekend as their young seasons get into full gear.

Coach Pat O'Rourke's varsity hockey team (6-0-2), after a key Great Lakes Hockey League match up with Lake Catholic at the Mentor Civic Arena on Wednesday at 7 PM, will be competing at the Culver (Indiana) Tournament on Friday night through Sunday.

Coming off a very representable performance at the Solon Comet Classic (see the corner's post from Saturday night), Coach Mark Sullivan's varsity wrestling team will be competing in the nationally acclaimed Ironman Tournament at Walsh Jesuit on Friday and Saturday. Matches begin at 1 PM on Friday and resume at 10 AM on Saturday.

Coach Sean O'Toole's varsity basketball team, which opened its season with 21-point victory at Shaw this past weekend, will play its home opener for the 2013-14 season when it faces the John Adams Rebels on Saturday night in Sullivan Gymnasium. The junior-varsity tipoff is scheduled for 6 PM, with the varsity game to follow at 7:30. NOTE: The corner will preview the Rebels-Wildcats match up on Wednesday night.

John Kastanis' Alley Cats, aka the Wildcats' varsity bowling team, will match pins with Brookside on Saturday at Buckeye Lanes and Saint Ignatius' talent-rich 2013-14 swimming and diving team is scheduled to swim against Mayfield on Friday and compete in the Solon Relays on Saturday.

To keep up with the Alley Cats, be sure to check out Coach Kastanis' weekly report on the corner (see Monday's post below) and for times and locations on all of the swimming and diving meets go to ignatius.edu, click on athletics and click on swimming and diving.
