Colleagues,

Because we have been advised that a shootout is not permitted by either the National Federation or the OHSAA, it has become necessary for the GLHL to amend our Competitive Play Guidelines and our overtime procedures. Based on feedback and discussion with our coaches, the following language will be effective immediately and will be applied retroactively to the beginning of this season with regard to the scoring procedures. The amendment to the By-Laws will be presented for formal adoption at the next meeting of the Executive Committee in January.

T. COMPETITIVE PLAY GUIDELINES

In case of a tie score at the end of the third period, there shall be a three minute intermission, ends shall not be changed, and an eight (8) minute, sudden death overtime period shall be played. The overtime period will be played 5 skaters on 5 skaters. Teams shall remain in the bench area between the end of the third period and the beginning of the overtime period. The team that scores first wins and the game is ended. If no score is made in these eight minutes, the game shall be declared a tie.

Once overtime is reached, each team will be awarded one (1) point. If one team scores in overtime, that team shall be awarded one (1) additional point. If neither team scores in the overtime period, the game is declared a tie and each team receives one point.

Thus, a win in regulation time will be worth 2 points, an overtime win will be worth 2 points, a tie will be worth 1 point for each team and an overtime loss will be worth 1 point.
