From Coach Dr. Mike Gallagher: Thanks to Janet Trentel for coordinating, and to the parents who provided snacks, ice cold water and gatorade.

Thanks also to all the parents and grandparents who made the trip to support the team!

This week's meet summary comes to you from our senior correspondent John Heisterkamp.

From John Heisterkamp: After coming off 3rd place at Canton GlenOak, the Varsity Wildcats were ready for the Hilliard Summer Bash in beautiful Hilliard, Ohio - a city of great-looking sights and a lot of humidity.

Temperatures of 90 degrees challenged our strong runners, and they were up for it. Putting 10 of our top guys in the varsity race, there were high expectations.

As the gun went off, the top Wildcats fought to get to the front with Luke Wagner, Tom Sullivan, CJ Ambrosio and Jimmy Rogers leading the way. The Wildcats picked up the pace at the second mile marker and that's when it was time to break off from the pack.

Luke took this to heart and stayed in front all the way to the end, running first place in a blisteringly fast 15:49! Tom was right behind him, finishing second in an impressive 16:01 (a nice little birthday present for our co-captain). Jimmy Rogers was our third Wildcat finishing 5th in a 16:09 PR.

CJ was behind him finishing 7th in a 16:17PR, Andrew Szendrey (16:39), Pat Nolan (16:52), Nick Saul (17:03), Conor Reilly (17:09), Collin Kelly (17:19), and Pat McGuire (17:28) rounded out our varsity race, with our Wildcats finishing first with 28 points. Good job guys!

You know they say that your body is the greatest machine on earth. Well, in a race, that's taken literally. When you run, you just keep on going and never let up. You feel like a machine being controlled by a chip. That chip makes you go the whole way through without letting up.

You might tell yourself "Maybe if I ease off...", but the chip tells you "No", and you keep on going. And when you get to that final stretch in a race, your chip goes into overdrive. Although Colin Caniglia's chip might have broke in last week's race, he must've gotten an upgrade as Colin won the Open race in a staggering 17:09! Liam McGuire was right behind him in second with 17:12. Tim Trentel (17:40), Matt Blouch (17:44), Alex Falkenberg (18:00), Mark McHugh (18:05) and John Heisterkamp (18:06) rounded out the top seven for the Open race. Congrats to both the Varsity and Open for winning their respective races!
