Saint Ignatius to send a solid contingent into Saturday's Division I Swimming finals of the 89th annual OHSAA State Swimming and Diving Tournament

Posted By Mr. Eddie Dwyer, with a huge tip of the corner's cap to the OHSAA and Canton, Ohio on presenting another outstanding event.

Saturday's Division I Finals at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio are scheduled to begin at 4 PM. There will be an award ceremony following each event.

As you can see from the continuous results posted on the corner earlier this afternoon and sitting right below this report, Coach Mike Lehto's Wildcats, a young team, took on the challenge of a talent-laden Division I field, both in individual and relay prelim events.

Among the solid efforts were a fourth-place finish by the Cats' 400-yard freestyle relay team; a fifth-place effort by Marcus Hong in the 100-yard butterfly; a seventh-place finish by the 200-yard freestyle relay team; eighth and 10th-place finishes, respectively, by Rayon Artis and Dimitri Simcox in the 50-yard freestyle; an eighth-place performance by Dimitri Simcox in the 100-yard freestyle; an 11th-place effort by Marcus Hong in the 100-yard backstroke, and a 14th spot in the 200-yard freestyle by Joey Libertin.

We wish all of the best to Coach Lehto's gifted young men in Saturday's finals, as they continue to represent Saint Ignatius with physical gifts that are complemented by strong minds.

And yes, our Jesuit brothers from St. Xavier continued to make their statement throughout the morning and afternoon. Once again, the Bombers, whose program is synonymous with Ohio High School Swimming, are gong after their eighth consecutive state championship and their 37th overall. And the frosting on that dominance consists of 46 district titles.

Note: For those faithful readers who asked why this old-timer puts in "so many late hours" tracking down certain Saint Ignatius results, first of all it is part of my job in helping the Wildcats' athletic teams get their just props and, in an event like the State Swimming and Diving Tournament, the OHSAA makes it clear that there are no media credentials for schools.
