With a 5-0 victory over North Royalton on Saturday, the Wildcats advance to the Regional Semifinal.

STRONGSVILLE, Oh - This past Saturday, the Wildcats defeated the North Royalton Bears by a dominant 5-0 score, claiming their tenth straight OHSAA District Championship.

The Cats entered the game coming off of two 8-0 wins over John Marshall and North Olmsted,  looking to carry that momentum into their next performance. North Royalton entered after claiming three consecutive upset victories against the likes of Avon, Cleveland Heights and Westlake.

Playing at Pat Catan Stadium in Strongsville, a neutral site, the Wildcats would look to take advantage of the wide field dimensions by getting their wing players, David Salukombo and Nick Trivisonno, involved early.

The offense would look to quash any hopes that North Royalton may have of yet another upset by scoring early. That early goal would soon come, as Nick Mikulec would stand over the right corner, play a ball in, and connect with Justis Olorunto, who would head the ball into the back of the net in the 26th minute.

That would be the only goal before the half, as the team would find several other chances but only partially be able to capitalize. That was, until Salukombo came through, going bar-down with a shot, just crossing over the goal line and extending the Wildcat lead to 2-0 with 27 minutes left in the second half.

After the second goal, the floodgates were opened for the Cats. Six minutes later, Nick Trivisonno would score with a magnificent right-footed finish, followed up another six minutes later by a Nick Mikulec goal from a Marty McLaughlin corner kick.

The Wildcats would claim one more goal to nail down the District Championship in the 77th minute, when sophomore Bryce Ince-Lovelace would make the lead 5-0, scoring on a cross from James Pacetti.

The Saint Ignatius side would run away with a dominant 5-0 lead, winning the program’s 23rd OHSAA District Championship and 10th in a row. They will take on the Copley Indians this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium. The winner will travel to Sandusky High School to take on the winner of Toledo St. John’s/Toledo St. Francis de Sales on Saturday in the Regional Final.
