Tom Beach's Varsity Gold squad finishes fifth out of 20 teams at the Jackson Polar Bear Invitational.

DOYLESTOWN, Oh - On Monday, August 7, the Varsity Gold Golf team played in the Massillon Jackson Polar Bear Invitational at Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown to open the new season.

The course was a par 71 course and the Cats were led by sophomore Joe Maloof and freshman Kyle Malicki as both shot a 75.

Joe Maloof (SO): 75
Kyle Malicki (FR): 75
Ben Emerson (SR): 76
Ryan Hvizd (JR): 79
Jackson Sommer (SO): 80
Dominic Castelluccio (FR): 81

The team total was 305, which put the Cats in fifth place out of 20 teams that competed on Monday. The Gold Cats boasted a lineup with players from every class. The steady play of Joe Maloof and Kyle Malicki paced the Cats in the season-opening invite.

Archbishop Hoban won the event with an impressive 286 (a score of 284 would mean all four golfers shot par 71)

The Varsity Gold team will compete on Tuesday, August 8, at the Saint Ignatius Invitational, which will intermix the Blue and Gold squads at Red Tail Golf Club in Avon.
