The Wildcats will travel to compete in the Barrow Tournament for the third time.

The Saint Ignatius Wildcats’ hockey team continues its redemption tour with a trip to the lovely campus of Upper Canada College in Toronto, Ontario to face tough, Canadian opponents.

The Wildcats are 3-5 at Upper Canada College’s Barrow Tournament, with two of their wins coming against Everest Academy.

After a two-game split at the MIHL Showcase, which includes the Wildcats’ first-ever win at the showcase, the team is excited for a shot at one of their toughest tournaments.

The Wildcats will travel to Toronto on Friday morning, and will play at 5:30 pm in their first round robin game.

College de Levis awaits the Wildcats upon arrival in the Great North. Levis is the No. 1 ranked Quebec high school hockey team and presents a challenge for the Wildcats.

Levis enters Friday night’s contest riding a 3 win streak, and has a 13-6-0 record. Levis beat the Wildcats’ Saturday morning opponent, Le Sommet, 3-1 earlier this season. The Wildcats lost to Levis last year, 3-1, in the opening game of last year’s tournament.

At 10:30 am on Saturday, the Wildcats will play Le Sommet International Prep. The Falcons have faced a familiar Wildcat opponent, A21 Academy, and have come away with a 2-1 record. Le Sommet also beat St. Michael, who beat the Wildcats, 6-3, earlier this season.

The Falcons are 16-13-0 and have a 2-game winning streak entering the Barrow Tournament. The Wildcats played Le Sommet in the 2016-17 season and fell, 3-0.

On Saturday at 5:30 pm, the Wildcats have a third chance for redemption, as the squad faces the host Upper Canada College. UCC is an incredibly tough team, and was the toughest team the Wildcats faced last season. UCC blanked the Wildcats 8-0 last season, and the Ice Cats do not need motivation heading into this game.

UCC has beaten A21 Academy, Loyola (QUE), and Le Sommet by a combined score of 13-3 in four contests. UCC has consistently beaten tough opponents all season long, and took Shady Side Academy to overtime. UCC is 17-13-1 this season, and will be a heavyweight matchup to look forward to.

The Wildcats will face three very tough teams in the round robin, and this could be the most challenging weekend of the regular season.

The OHSAA Playoff Hockey Draw happened on Wednesday night, and the Wildcats drew the No. 1 seed in the Brooklyn District. The Ice Cats begin the playoffs versus Brecksville-Broadview Heights on February 16 at noon. All district playoff games will be played at the John M. Coyne Recreation Center in Brooklyn
