The Saint Ignatius varsity golf team is ready to face off against the best the state of Ohio has to offer.

The Wildcats qualified for the State Tournament on October 8, finishing third at the District Tournament. Since then, the Wildcats have been preparing for the big challenge.

The Golf Cats will be competing for the program's first state title since 2002. With a loaded squad, the Wildcats can certainly compete with the state's best. As a team, the Wildcats have an impressive 18-hole team average of 305.

The Ohio State University's Scarlet Course will be the venue for Friday and Saturday's tournament. The course is certainly difficult, but the Wildcats are well-prepared.

Here are the golfers who will represent the Wildcats in Columbus:

• Senior Jake Moraca, 79.07 average

• Junior Andrew Kaye, 76.95 average

• Junior Ross Williamson, 78.75 average

• Sophomore Nick Longano, 78.02 average

• Sophomore Andrew Martin (alternate), 79.8 average

• Freshman Topher Reed, 73.95 average

The Wildcats will tee off on the 10th hole on Friday at about 9 a.m. The time is tentative, as frost could potentially push back the start time. However, the overall forecast on Friday calls for a pleasant day – a mix of clouds and sun with a high of 80˚ during the day.
