The trip to New York City brought plenty of positives for the Saint Ignatius soccer program – confidence, one win, and unforgettable memories. However, the trip did drop the Wildcats in the national polls.

After falling to St. Benedict's Prep on Friday, the Wildcats dropped in this week's national polls. Despite defeating Chaminade on Saturday, 3-1, the Soccer Cats dropped out of the Top 5 nationally.

USA TODAY's new rankings dropped the Wildcats from No. 2 to No. 9. Top Drawer Soccer also placed the men of Mike McLaughlin '85 at No. 9, from the previous ranking of No. 5.

However, the Wildcats remain the top dawgs in Ohio. Top Drawer ranked the Soccer Cats as the No. 1 team in both Ohio and the Great Lakes Region. The Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association (OSSCA) also kept the Wildcats atop its poll. 

From this point forward, rankings mean little to the Wildcats. Only the results on the field do, especially with the approaching OHSAA playoffs. 

The Wildcats have a week to rest and regroup for the home stretch of the season. Toledo St. Francis visits Wasmer Field on Saturday, as the Wildcats and Knights will face off at 12:30 p.m. on Senior Day for the Cats. Next week, the Padua Bruins and Olentangy Liberty Patriots will challenge the Soccer Cats to round out the regular season.
