Playing on the road against a difficult team, the Saint Ignatius varsity team remained undefeated with a tie.

The Wildcats battled to a 1-1 draw vs. St. Charles on Saturday afternoon in Columbus.

The contest represented a highly anticipated rematch. The Wildcats and Cardinals last met in the 2016 OHSAA Division I Championship game. The Wildcats edged out the Cardinals for a 2-1 victory, claiming the title for the third year in a row.

A winner would not be declared this time, as neither team could finish more than one chance. 

St. Charles struck first to open the scoring. The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead with the first-half tally. 

The advantage did not last too long. The Wildcats tied the contest at 1, as Kyle Folds found the net for the visitors. Folds has now scored in each of the last four contests. 

The teams entered the break deadlocked in a 1-1 tie, despite the Cardinals pressuring the Wildcats heavily. The deadlock would continue into the second half.

As Head Soccer Coach Mike McLaughlin '85 reported, each team earned a few good chances. However, neither team could put anything away. The Wildcats settled down and played their game, but could not find the back of the net.

The tie sends the Cats, ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in the country, to 8-0-2 on the year. 

The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday. The team will host University School for a JV/Varsity showdown, beginning with the JV contest at 5 p.m. 

Speaking of the JV team, the JV A Cats captured a 1-0 victory. Max Smoot tallied the lone goal. And in the JV B contest, the Wildcats fell by a narrow margin of 3-2.

THROWBACK TUESDAY:  The Soccer Cats will host the 2008 state championship team on Alumni Night on Tuesday. The members of the 2008 squad will be honored with a special halftime ceremony at Tuesday's game vs. University School.
