Following a week or rainy weather, the Saint Ignatius varsity golf team received a sunny day on the course on Saturday.

The Wildcats enjoyed the great weather, finishing as the runner-up at the St. Edward Invitational at Lakewood Country Club. Four members of the squad finished with sub-80 scores on a solid day of golf for the Wildcats.

The team also received a boost in the form of a dedicated cheering section. The Rugby Cats came to the course to cheer on the Golf Cats, showing up in khaki shorts, Hawaiian shirts, and blue blazers to bring some energy to the course on Saturday.

Topher Reed continued his early season tear at Lakewood. The freshman shot an impressive round of 1 over par 72 to top the team. His effort anchored the Wildcats.

Andrew Kaye tabbed a 77 on the afternoon to finish second on the team. Junior Ross Williamson and Senior Jake Moraca each carded a 79 for the Cats. Sophomores Nick Longano and Andrew Martin penciled in scores of 82 and 83 to complete the team effort.

As a team, the Wildcats scored a 307 on the day. Archbishop Hoban won the tournament with a school-record score of 295.

Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Columbus next weekend. The Golf Cats will take part in the Bishop Watterson Invitational next Saturday at 10 a.m. at Clover Valley Golf Course.
