The season is off to a great start for the Saint Ignatius varsity country team, and others are starting to notice.

In the most recent poll by the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCC), the Wildcats are ranked No. 5 in the state of Ohio.

The Wildcats started off the season as the No. 7 team in the poll. The men of Dr. Michael Gallagher '71 now stand in fifth with 185 points.

The team has captured third place or better in its first three races of the season. The Wildcats finished second in the GlenOak Invitational, first at the Mentor Invitational, and third in the Tiffin Carnival Race, a great early season test.

Hudson sits atop the poll with 238 points and 10 first-place votes. Mason occupies second with 226 points and 2 first-place votes. St. Xavier (212) and and Hilliard Davidson (207) are just above the Wildcats in the poll. Ashland (179), Centerville (165), Gahanna Lincoln (160), Massillon Jackson (130), and Pickerington North (126) round out the top 10.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday. The squad will compete in the Forest Hills McDonough Invitational at Forest Hills Park.
