Andrew Kaye shot an impressive 71 on the day.

For the second straight day, the Saint Ignatius varsity golf team went toe-to-toe with some of the best golfers in the state.

Unlike yesterday, the Wildcats did not emerge as the victors, despite improving on the previous day's team score by 6 strokes.

The Golf Cats carved out a second-place finish at Shale Creek Golf Course at the Walker Jones Classic on Wednesday, notching an impressive team score of 296. Only the traditionally powerful St. Xavier Bombers, with a team tally of 292, bested the Wildcats.

A total of 18 teams competed in the tournament at the par 71 course in Medina. Amongst steep competition, freshman Topher Reed and junior Andrew Kaye rose to the top. Reed and Kaye notched even-par rounds of 71, finishing second and third, respectively. The dynamic duo fell short of medalist honors by just two strokes to the Bombers' top man.

Three Wildcats penciled in a 77 on scorecards at the end of the day – Nick Longano, Ross Williamson, and Andrew Martin. The trio enjoyed a solid day on the course, as the junior and two sophomores have started out the season strong. Jake Moraca rounded out the Wildcats' group with an 85.

The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, heading to Little Mountain Golf Course for a day on the links.

JV Blue Wins in Strongsville

Guided by scores of 77 by Liam Doyle and Sean White, the JV Blue Cats won the Strongsville Invitational at Bunker Hill Golf Course with a team score of 314.

Doyle finished as the individual runner-up after winning the scorecard tiebreaker. Ian Shemo tabbed a 79, Matt Giberti scored an 81, and Michael Van Etten tallied an 82 on the par 70 course.

The boys of Tom Bogen have nearly a week off before heading to Clover Valley to face St. Charles next Tuesday, the last day of summer for the Wildcats.
