Ameo is the second Lax Cat to be named an All-American twice.

Following a special 2018 campaign, two members of the Saint Ignatius prep lacrosse team have made history.

Anthony Ameo and Michael Boehm have been named All-Americans.

In the illustrious history of Saint Ignatius lacrosse, Ameo becomes just the second player in program history to receive the honor twice. Meanwhile, Boehm is the first Wildcat sophomore to earn the accolade.

Without a doubt, the honors are well-deserved. Wildcats fans bore witness to the greatness of these two Wildcats, arguably two of the most talented lacrosse players to walk the halls of Saint Ignatius.

Ameo and Boehm shine both in real-life and on the stat sheet. The duo now owns a whopping 9 school records.

Ameo won 223-of-306 faceoffs (72.9%) this season, tabbing 114 groundballs in the process. Ameo also raced from the faceoff circle to the slot to score 13 goals this year, assisting on four other tallies.

Ameo ends his Saint Ignatius career with the single-game mark for ground balls (17), the single-season records for groundballs (175 in 2017) and faceoff percentage (75% in 2017), and the career records for groundballs (484) and faceoff percentage. Without a doubt, Ameo is the best faceoff man in school history.

But Ameo's impact upon the Lax Cats was not limited to his outstanding efforts at the X.

"Anthony is a class act! A consummate leader and does so by example," said Head Coach Gary Cintron. "Anthony's no quit attitude is what propelled us into and through the playoffs.

"In the face of an injury, Anthony won 75% of the faceoffs against Dublin Coffman and he won the biggest one of the season in overtime to give us possession in overtime. Anthony was a team captain who we will hold as the standard moving forward."

Ameo will head to The Ohio State University this fall to be the Buckeyes' FOGO, following in the footsteps of the great Anthony Kelly '99. The faceoff master will also join goalie Jack Rennillo '17 at OSU. Ameo has a bright future ahead.

The Wildcats' other honoree has two seasons left, a fact that should scare other lacrosse programs. Boehm's potential is incredible, as his first two seasons have proven.

Boehm grew tremendously as an attacker this season. Following a great, state championship season with the Ice Cats, Boehm rolled into lacrosse season with ease. The rising junior dominated opposing defenses and goalies from start to finish this season.

Boehm completed the 2018 campaign with ridiculous stats, setting three single-season school records. Boehm finished the year with 67 goals, 45 assists, and 112 points, all Saint Ignatius records. Boehm also added 48 groundballs this year.

In addition, Boehm surpassed the career mark for assists in a season with 72, overcoming Dan Hayden's record of 69. Next year, the career bests for goals (123, Alex Hornung 2014-16) and points (210, Thomas Paras 2005-09) are all in danger.

By the time he's done, Boehm could become the best attackman Wildcats fans have ever seen. But the success has not given Boehm a big head.

"Michael Boehm is the most mature student-athlete I have ever had the pleasure of coaching," Cintron said. "Michael's ability to see the field as he moves with the ball is so above grade level for an attackman of his age. Michael has a no-stop attitude that makes Michael the best attackman in the state and no doubt one of the top five attackmen in the country in the 2020 class. In the face of true competition and with the game on the line the moment is never too big for Michael."

Ameo and Boehm will be honored at the Ohio Hall of Fame Luncheon on Saturday, June 9 at the Ohio Union Great Hall in Columbus, Ohio. The Ohio Machine are in town that evening and a special recognition at halftime is in the works.

Congrats to Anthony and Michael – thanks for a great season, men!
