The Cats' defense only allowed one goal at home on Wednesday

Since returning to Northeast Ohio, the Saint Ignatius prep lacrosse team has been an unstoppable locomotive.

The Lax Cats have won four in a row, including three at home, by an average margin of 14 goals.

Shaker Heights, carrying a 5-5 record into the game, fought hard, but the Wildcats chugged along for a 17-1 win on Wednesday. The Cats are undefeated this season on Wasmer Field at 6-0, and 6-0 vs. Northeast Ohio opponents.

The contest began slowly, due to the cold and slight rain. Jack Moriarty experienced no trouble in finding his footing, though, tabbing the first goal just 70 seconds into the contest. The junior added his second and third of the night later in the period for an early hat trick. The Red Raiders struck at 1:57 of the first quarter, setting the score at 3-1 entering the second.

A scoring frenzy ensued in the second stanza. The Lax Cats erupted for nine unanswered goals and squelched all opportunities on the other side for Shaker Heights.

Nate Conry began the frenetic activity with a pair of tallies in the first minute. Michael Boehm then scored his first goal of the game, off a pass from Conry on a man-up opportunity. Merick Hartley took a pass from Ian Flynn and touched twine at 7:01, doubling the margin in just five minutes.

In the latter portion of the half, Boehm scored twice, Flynn tallied a goal, Greg Langermeier fired one past the 'tendie, and Max Maruna completed the scoring with 5 seconds left in the period. The Wildcats finished the half with a 12-1 lead.

The third quarter saw the Cats ease off the gas pedal, as Moriarty initiated a running clock just 72 seconds into the third. Chris Larsen sent a laser into the net to end the third at 14-1.

The Wildcats netted three highlight goals in the fourth. Charlie Kinzel, Moriarty, and Conry finished off the scoring with a bang, setting the final score at 17-1.

The Lax Cats Express will roll into Columbus tomorrow for a marquee matchup with St. Xavier. The Wildcats and Bombers will faceoff at Fortress Obetz, the home of the Ohio Machine of Major League Lacrosse. The contest is tentatively scheduled for 7:30 pm at the conclusion of the Wildcats' Varsity Blue vs. St. Xavier JV game.

Varsity Blue / JV Updates: The Varsity Blue Lax Cats earned a 13-1 win over Shaker Heights' JV team on Wednesday to advance to 3-3 on the year. The JV Cats of Bo Shim '92 are 6-0-1 heading into a Friday night meeting with Avon Lake.
