The Saint Ignatius varsity prep lacrosse team has started their season off with a bang.

Following a win against Solon, the Wildcats faced University School on a cold Tuesday night. After a slow start in the first half, the Lax Cats turned the switch and scored 12 goals in the second half. Gary Cintron, who was named head coach this past summer hoping to fill the shoes of past great coaches such as Coach Pat McManamon and Coach Garen Distelhorst, coached in his first home game.

In the first half, the Wildcats were a little slow, either due to getting back to grinding in the regular season with the cold, or adjusting to a new team and new coach. The Wildcats scored five goals in the first half and University School scored four.

The Preppers started the game out with scoring within the first two minutes of the game following a score from sophomore Michael Boehm. Than later in the first period, US scored another goal from their attackman. The first period ended without another score.

The next set of 12 minutes began and it was kind of shaky for the Wildcats at first. The hosts would score, then it felt like the Preppers would always find a way to score in response. Boehm scored for the second time, and Jack Moriarty, Anthony Ameo, and Merick Hartley scored, too. The period ended at 5-4 Cats.

Following the first half, Coach Cintron ran over to the other side of the field to have a talk with his team, and you could tell that Coach Cintron was feeling confident. The team was getting pumped up and you could hear it from the other side of Wasmer.

The Wildcats started the second half with a certain sense of charisma and grace where it just made them look invincible. Beginning the half, they scored six goals in almost six minutes and nine in the third period, truly remarkable.

In the second half, the stats were unbelievable, Jack Moriarty scored three goals, Nathan Conry scored four, Michael Boehm scored two, and other players scored singularly in the second half such as Merick Hartly, Connor Cmiel, and Noah Catanzarite.

Even the men who didn’t score produced tremendous defensive, offensive, and passing skills in the 17-6 win.

The Cats walked out of Wasmer with a win and a smile. The team will play next on Saturday at 7 pm vs. Upper Arlington.

Clean Sweep: The JV Cats notched a 4-3 win over University School in the first match of the doubleheader to advance to 1-0-1 on the year. Next up is Archbishop Hoban at home next Monday.
