The Golf Cats were smiling after a great Wednesday.

Both Saint Ignatius JV golf squads emerged with happy victories on Wednesday afternoon.

The JV Gold golf squad, practically unbeatable in dual matches, defeated Brunswick on Wednesday, 165-177. The JV Blue Cats also captured a key victory, a 175-180 win over the St. Edward Eagles at Lakewood Country Club.

A mix of sun and clouds beckoned the Wildcats on Wednesday. The JV Gold squad played from the blue tees, and according to Coach Tom Beach, the slop from the tees wad 72.8/131.

Nick Longano anchored the Golf Cats with a score of 38, earning him medalist honors on the afternoon. KJ Ripich came in close behind with a 40.

Kyle Gerrity showed major improvement in his game on Wednesday, carding an impressive 43. Jess Saunders and John Klym penciled in solid scores of 44, while Zach Hazard rounded out the pack with a 48.

Brunswick improved by 18 strokes from the last dual match three weeks ago, but the Wildcats' efforts held off the Blue Devils. Thanks to the win at Pine Hills Golf Course, the Wildcats are now 5-0 in dual matches on the year.

Beach's boys will have a chance to keep the Cleveland Indians-esque winning streak going on Monday. The Wildcats will face Walsh Jesuit at Brookledge Golf Course on September 18 at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the JV Blue Cats received a stellar effort from Andrew Martin en route to victory. Playing on his home turf, Martin turned in a medalist effort with a noteworthy score of 40.

Matthew Giberti tallied a 43 to buoy the Wildcats, while William Doyle tabbed a 44. Ian Shemo penciled in a 48 and Sean White recorded a 49 to wrap up a solid day of golfing for the Wildcats.

Even after the triumph, there's no time to rest for Coach Tom Bogen's crew. The JV Blue Cats will play their third dual match in three days on Thursday, with a short West side trip. The squad will battle Rocky River today at Big Met at 4 p.m.
