The Wildcats are preparing for Wednesday's showdown vs. St. Edward.

The Saint Ignatius varsity soccer team continues to learn and grow, leading to increased respect at the statewide level.

Rising above doubts about inexperience, the Soccer Cats have sprinted to a 5-1-1 start, with a lone loss coming to the ever-tough St. Xavier Bombers in the Jesuit Cup.

Thanks to a 9-0 win over Lake Catholic on Thursday and a 1-1 tie with the difficult Mason Comets, the Wildcats have risen from No. 4 to No. 2 in the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.

The 5-1-1 Wildcats sit behind only Olentangy Liberty out of Columbus. The Patriots have a 5-0 record this season.

Anderson (Cincinnati) stands behind the Wildcats at No. 3, 4-0-1 Beavercreek comes in at No. 4, and Dublin Coffman rounds out the top five. Archbishop Moeller, Wadsworth, Westlake, Medina, and Centerville constitute the rest of the top ten.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday with a huge home game. The Eagles of St. Edward will visit the corner or Lorain and West 30th Street for a renewal of the annual rivalry. The Soccer Cats downed Lakewood's finest last season on St. Edward's turf.

The JV match begins at 6 pm, with varsity action slated for 8 pm. Tickets can be purchased online here if you want to skip the long lines certain for form for this marquee contest.
