The scrimmage will take place at Brooklyn, and is free to attend!

Summer is typically known for baseball, not hockey. But is there a better way to cool off on a hot summer day than watching some hockey?

The Saint Ignatius hockey team will return to the confines of Brooklyn Ice Arena on Saturday, July 29, providing Wildcats fans a glimpse at next year's team, plus a relief from the heat.

The scrimmage will be a rematch of last season's Division I State Championship contest. The Toledo St. Francis Knights will come to Northeast Ohio to face the Wildcats in a premier offseason matchup.

The Ice Cats defeated the Knights in the title bout, 5-1, knocking off St. Francis for the second season in a row. Benny Savarino starred in net, turning away 30 St. Francis shots. The Saint Ignatius defense also did its job in front of Savarino, and the offense scored early and often.

Following significant losses to graduation, including Wirtz Award winner Matt Wiegandt, Connor Koehnke, Seth Whitney, and others, the Ice Cats will need younger guns to step up. However, the Wildcats appear to be poised for another run at the cup.

The slate will be difficult this year, but the Ice Cats are ready for the journey, which begins at the upcoming scrimmage.

The JV game will begin at 2 p.m., and puck drop for the varsity contest is set for 3:30 p.m. Admission is free for all.

Hopefully we'll see you in Brooklyn!
