The Saint Ignatius lacrosse team's first-ever OHSAA Tournament contest went quite well.

The Lax Cats rolled to a 20-2 victory over the Cleveland Heights Tigers at Wasmer Field on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats advance to 10-7 with the win, and advance to play Shaker Heights in the Regional Quarterfinal match at home on Saturday at noon.

The contest began with a bang for the Wildcats. Several, actually.

The Lax Cats held a 4-0 lead by the 8:50 mark of the first, thanks to goals by Noah Catanzarite, Brent Chernosky, Michael Boehm, and Riley Kinzel.

The scoring continued for the hosts as the first quarter. Charlie Klenkar, Connor McGowan, and Nate Conry advance the Wildcats' lead to eights tallies with 4:14 left in the first.

McGowan, Bain Kurtz, and Kinzel rounded out the first quarter with goals, setting the margin at 11 goals entering the second.

The Tigers notched a goal to start the second, but Boehm quickly ripped off a trio of tallies in response. Patrick Koehler completed the first half with a marker of his own, setting the score at 15-1 after 24 minutes of play.

The third quarter saw more Wildcats' goals, as Liam Nigro, McGowan, Aaron Casile, Chernosky, and Max Maruna all recorded goals in the third. The Tigers also notched a goal, too.

Neither team found the back of the net in the fourth, as the Wildcats possessed the ball for much of the quarter.

Boehm led the Lax Cats with five goals, adding to his growing tally. on the year.

Following the victory over Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights awaits the Wildcats. The Red Raiders defeated Stow on Wednesday, 19-4, to clinch a spot in the second round. Earlier in the season, the Wildcats beat the Raiders, 6-5, on a rainy April night on Wasmer Field.
