It was another victory for the Saint Ignatius volleyball team on Wednesday night in a very hot Sullivan Gymnasium. The Wildcats defeated the Bulldogs from Stow-Munroe Falls, 3-1.

The first set went to the Wildcats, 25-15. Saint Ignatius put together 13 kills and 2 big blocks to overwhelm the now 16-7 Bulldogs.

In the second set, Saint Ignatius went up 2-0, eventually winning 25-11. Stow-Munroe Falls hurt themselves by committing 11 errors, while the ‘Cats had just 6. The Wildcats also had 9 kills, 2 blocks, and 3 aces.

Stow-Munroe Falls then started to get some energy going in the third set when they survived a late comeback by the Wildcats, winning 25-23. The Bulldogs notched 11 kills to overcome the tough defense from Head Coach Casey Marcelo’s squad.

But the Wildcats would prove to be too much for the No. 12  team in the state. The Wildcats took down the Bulldogs in the fourth set, 25-12. Saint Ignatius had 10 kills in the set.

Richie Holzheimer led the way with 36 assists. Danny Michals had 18 kills, to go along with JP Purcell’s 13. Matt Saponaro had 11 digs. With the seniors being the focus of the night, it was a great win in their last match at Sullivan Gymnasium.

The now 17-3 Saint Ignatius Wildcats now have one more remaining regular season match of the year on Friday night at St. Edward.
