The Wildcats won all 3 matches this weekend.

On a beautiful Friday evening in Ohio City, the attention of Saint Ignatius faithful turned to Sullivan Gym for a premier matchup between the Saint Ignatius volleyball squad and the Walsh Jesuit Warriors.

The Wildcats fans received quite a show, as the Volleyball Cats captured a 3-1 victory over the Warriors.

The triumph, revenge from last year's 3-0 home loss to Walsh Jesuit, took the Wildcats to 14-3 on the season.

And on Saturday, the Wildcats snatched victories over St. Francis DeSales and Olentangy Liberty, setting the squad's record at 16-3.

The match versus Walsh Jesuit began with a furious attack by the Wildcats' front line. The Volleyball Cats leaped out to a 7-0 lead before the Warriors fought back to 7-2 and took a timeout.

The respite did not help the Warriors, as the Wildcats kept swinging. John Moynihan posted an impressive effort with an ace and some solid play on the outside, helping the Wildcats win the first set, 25-17.

The attacking style of Matthew Sapanaro allowed the Wildcats to take another lead in the second set, which the Wildcats refused to relent. Richard and Vince Holzheimer also proved to be critical. Rich, the elder Holzheimer, notched 13 assists in the second.

The Wildcats' efforts paid off with a 25-16 victory in the second set.

The third also looked to be the Wildcats' set to win. Three aces set the tone and allowed the Wildcats to build a significant lead with only two points to go. However, the Warriors did not want to go home early. Walsh Jesuit rallied for the 25-23 win in the third, forcing a fourth set.

Just like the first two sets, the Wildcats grabbed an early lead and found a rhythm. The Volleyball Cats combined for an impressive 14 kills, with Philip Catanzaro leading the way with 4 kills by himself.

In the end, the Wildcats went out to rout the Warriors, 25-14, earning the set and match victory.

But the weekend did not end there for the Wildcats. A Saturday trip to Columbus was in store.

Despite the quick turnaround, the Wildcats took care of business in Ohio's capital city, downing St. Francis DeSales, 2-1, and Olentangy Liberty, 2-0.

The day began with a set decided in overtime. Despite the Wildcats' impressive 20 kills, DeSales hung on to defeat the Wildcats, 28-26, in the first set. Rich Holzheimer buoyed the visitors with 18 assists, while James Purcell guided the front lines with 5 kills, also chipping in 4 digs. Danny Michals also notched 6 kills for the Cats.

The second set went much differently. A voracious Wildcats team tore into St. Francis DeSales, taking set two, 25-10. An extraordinary 7 aces, including five by freshman Quinn Flanagan, characterized a dominant set for the Wildcats.

The second set turned the tables, as the Wildcats finished off DeSales in the third set, 25-17. Catanzaro accounted for four of the squad's 15 kills, which downed the hosts, 2-1.

In the next contest, the Wildcats performed even better at times.

Set number one versus Olentangy Liberty ended in a 25-16 win for the Wildcats. Catanzaro tabbed four of the team's 18 digs, while Purcell paved the way with six kills in a big set win.

The second set ended exactly the same way, with the Wildcats winning, 25-16. Michals' 5 kills and 4 digs did the job for the Volleyball Cats in the deciding set.

With three weekend wins in hand, the Wildcats will rest before hosting Stow-Munroe Falls on Wednesday. The match is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Sullivan Gym.
