A trip to Columbus is on tap for the Volleyball Cats.

Rain, rain, go away ...

Despite the Wildcats' wishes, Mother Nature has ushered in a large weather system that will deliver rain to the area until Sunday. The rain will likely wreak havoc with the Wildcats' schedules, causing cancelations and delays.

Even still, it promises to be a busy weekend for the blue and gold. Here's what to expect this weekend for the Wildcats.

Alumni Awards Night

While no athletic contests will take place at Wasmer Field over the weekend, Alumni Awards will provide plenty of excitement at Wildcat High on Saturday. Mark Buddie '85, Pete Fitzpatrick '90, and Ryan Franzinger '02 will all be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Alumni Awards Night.

Volleyball

The Saint Ignatius volleyball squad, the only spring sport immune to the weather, will head to Columbus for the second straight weekend.

The Wildcats will have revenge on their minds, as they will face Westerville South. The Wildcats vs. Wildcats matchup marks a rematch of last weekend, as Saint Ignatius fell to Westerville South, 3-1, as part of the Centerville Elite Eight.

Saint Ignatius enters the weekend with an 11-3 record, with impressive wins over Centerville, Archbishop Hoban, Walsh Jesuit, St. Edward, and Beavercreek on the resume.

Following the contest against Westerville South, the Wildcats will have six matches before the start of the postseason.

Lacrosse

After defeating Solon on Thursday on Senior Night, the Wildcats stand at 8-5 on the year with one game left on the schedule.

The Lax Cats will travel to Cincinnati today for a 7 p.m. contest against St. Xavier, the No. 1 ranked team in the state. The Bombers bring a 12-2 mark into the contest, most recently defeating Indian Hill on Wednesday, 19-5.

Riley Kinzel and Kyle Katigbak netted hat tricks for the Wildcats, leading the offensive attack. The Lax Cats will need a similar outburst on offense to defeat the Bombers after a 4-hour bus trip to Cincy.

The JV Gold Cats will also play the Bombers. The JV Gold squad, stocked with talent this year, carries an unblemished 7-0 record into the contest.

The 8-0 JV Blue Cats are scheduled to face off with Wooster on the road tonight at 7 p.m.

Baseball

Rain has washed out the weekend's slate for the Wildcats, canceling the Ohio Jesuit Tournament scheduled to be held at Toledo Saint John's.

The Baseball Cats are still making the best of it, though. Manager Brad Ganor has scheduled a contest versus Walsh Jesuit on Monday at 5 p.m. at Baldwin Wallace.

The contest will begin an important week for the Baseball Cats. The team will play six games in six days, all at Baldwin Wallace. The Wildcats will host Avon, Benedictine, Solon, the winner of Valley Forge vs. Lincoln West, and North Royalton next week.

Crew

Following a pair of weekends at home, the Saint Ignatius rowing team will hit the road, bound for Michigan.

The Crew Cats will head to Orchard Lake St. Mary's for the St. Mary's Laddie Cup. The regatta is always an enjoyable and productive one for the Wildcats, though weather threatens to spoil the fun.

Rugby

As the seniors enjoy Prom, the rest of the Rugby Cats will head for Elkhart, Indiana for the Midwest Tournament.

The 13-1 Wildcats currently stand as the No. 1 team in the nation heading into the weekend. The squad last played on Saturday, defeated St. Edward, 26-17.

A matchup with Bishop Dwenger will begin the tournament for the Rugby Cats on Saturday at noon. Should the squad win, the Wildcats will play the winner of St. Xavier and La Salette on Saturday at 4 p.m. If the Wildcats win that contest, too, the championship will take place on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Tennis

The rain refused to go away, so Head Coach Jon Barker '87 decided to head indoors.

Following the cancellations of two matches this week, Coach Barker has scheduled an indoor match against the Canfield Cardinals at Cleveland State University.

The Wildcats will begin play at 5 p.m. this afternoon. The squad carries an 11-2 record into the match following a close loss to Solon this week.

Veterans such as Josh Hsia have showcased serious skills down the stretch, while youngsters such as Arjun Brahmbhatt have emerged as contenders, boding well for the Tennis Cats in the upcoming postseason.

Track & Field

A trip across town awaits the Wildcats today. Members of the track and field will travel to Mentor High School, weather-permitting, for the Euclid Relays.

The Wildcats last competed a week ago, snagging second in the Titan Kiwanis Relays. The squad will look to keep improving heading into the Olympic Challenge at Saint Ignatius next week and the postseason after that.
