Defense won the day for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats are back on the path.

The Saint Ignatius lacrosse team experienced bad bounces and tough times during a three-game losing streak, but all that is behind the Lax Cats.

A 5-2 victory over Massillon Jackson set the Wildcats back on track, as Coach Garen Distelhorst '96 led the Lax Cats to a road victory on Tuesday evening.

Defense dictated the contest for the Wildcats, who held the Polar Bears off the scoreboard in the first half.

Only Brent Chernosky could touch the twine in the first, scoring with one minute remaining in the second period. The senior's tally gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at the half.

Michael Boehm notched his first marker of the day for the blue and goal early in the third quarter, setting the score at 2-0. The lead continued to grow, as Noah Catanzarite scored for the Wildcats, turning up the heat on the Polar Bears.

Boehm again found the back of the net for the Wildcats with seven minutes remaining in the third. The freshman phenom has been clutch for the Wildcats this year.

The Polar Bears did respond, halving the lead with a pair of goals. However, the Wildcats would not tolerate a comeback. Patrick Koehler finished off Jackson with a fast-break tally, setting the score at 5-2.

No response emanated from the Polar Bears, leaving the final at 5-2. The Wildcats advanced to 7-5 with the victory in hand.

Riley Kinzel added an assist for the Wildcats, while Boehm and Anthony Ameo notched 6 ground balls apiece on the stat sheet. Carter Blossey turned away 8 Jackson shots.

The Wildcats will now prepare for a Thursday night matchup with Solon on Wasmer Field. Senior Night festivities will take place just before the 7:30 p.m. start.
