The Saint Ignatius tennis team accomplished a feat that perhaps no Wildcats team ever had before the weekend.

The Tennis Cats swept the St. Edward Tournament on Saturday, taking first place at every position and claiming all 50 possible points. According to Head Coach Jon Barker '87, it might well mark the first time the Wildcats have ever swept a tournament.

The highlight of the tournament came in the first singles matchup. Josh Hsia managed a 3-set victory over his Westlake opponent, fighting off a match point before winning, 11-9, in the final tie-break.

Besides Hsia, Andy Siciliano and Arjun Brahmbhatt also earned the gold in singles competition for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats' doubles teams fared just as well. Kevin Callanan and Jack McNally combined to win the first doubles competition, while Richie Hofstra and Brian Zhu followed up with another winning performance.

As Coach Barker said, it proved to be a fun tournament for the Wildcats against some top competition from St. Edward, Hudson, North Canton Hoover, St. Francis, Perrysburg, Walsh Jesuit, and Westlake.

Despite the win, the Wildcats have no time to rest on their laurels. The Tennis Cats return to action today against St. Edward at Magnificat at 4 p.m. Weather-permitting, the Wildcats will then face Westlake on the road on Tuesday.

Congrats to Coach Barker and the Tennis Cats on a memorable weekend.
