Strong Second-Place Finish at Districts for Saint Ignatius Swimming and Diving

The Saint Ignatius swimming and diving team kept the momentum rolling from their record breaking showing at Sectionals with a solid performance at Saturday’s District Finals. 

Individually, four swimmers qualified in their respective events.

Senior Marcus Hong qualified in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, taking 1st place in the 100 butterfly. Senior Joey Libertin qualified in the 200 and 500 freestyle. Junior Cian O’Haimhirgin qualified in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Senior Dimitri Simcox qualified and won the 50 freestyle. 

The ‘Cats took home first in the 200 medley relay, featuring Simcox, M. Hong, N. Hong, and O’Haimhirgin. The 400 free relay also earned a top spot, as Simcox, Joey Libertin, O’Haimhirgin, and Marcus Hong formed a solid team.

To cap off their successful day, the ‘Cats qualified in the 200 free relay with Joey Libertin, Dimitri Simcox, John Hessler, and Severyn Kushmeliuk. 

All in all, the Wildcats took second overall and will be sending seven swimmers (Marcus Hong, Joey Libertin, Can O’Haimhirgin, Dimitri Simcox, John Hessler, Severyn Kushmeliuk, and Nick Hong) and one diver (Alex Claus) to compete in the State Finals this weekend in Canton, Ohio.
