Saturday was a day to remember for the Saint Ignatius swimming and diving program.

The Wildcats cruised to comfortable 1st place victory at the Sectional Finals, finishing with an impressive 413 points, 129 points ahead of second place Strongsville.

Marcus Hong led the way by taking 1st in both the 100 back and the 100 fly. The senior broke both the school and Sectional record for both events.

Joey Libertin, in addition to finishing first in the 200 free, posted a 4:46.57 for the 500 free, breaking the Sectional record for that event.

Dimitri Simcox broke his former Sectional record with a time of 21.15 in the 50 free, barely beating out fellow teammate Cian O’Haimhirgin (21.54). O’Haimhirgin, in addition to his impressive second place in the 50 free, took 1st place in the 100 free with a time of 47.11.

The ‘Cats also took home first place in both the 400 free relay (breaking another Sectional Record) and the 200 free relay. Simcox guided both relay teams, also serving as a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.

The Wildcats return to the pool Saturday, February 18 at Bowling Green University for the District Finals.
