Cleveland, Ohio - Watching Saint Ignatius' junior cornerback Cameron Toppin practicing on a cold, gray Wednesday afternoon at Wasmer Field, this corner couldn't help but think back to last season when Cameron helped lead Coach Paul Yappel's Junior Varsity Football Cats to a 21-7 victory over St. Edward's Jayvees on the Eagles' home field in Brother James Everett, C.S.C., Stadium.

Cameron had two key interceptions on what was a brisk, but perfect late October night in Lakewood, including one off excellent deep coverage versus St. Edward's top JV receiver and another pick that settled the issue.

Now a key member of Coach Kevin Johnson's and Coach Pat Hinkel's Varsity defensive secondary, Cameron is having a solid season that has produced 22 tackles, including two solos and an assist that have resulted in -minus 12 yards for the opposition.

Cameron, who was also a key contributor on the Wildcats' Junior Varsity Basketball Team last winter, has roamed the secondary for some timely plays during the Cats' all-important second half of the season stretch run, including two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
