The corner was covering JV and Varsity Soccer today, so Wildcats Assistant Football Coaches Dennis Grosel '16, Jim Cahill '89 and Dave Cicetti were kind enough to put together a recap on Saturday's JV matchup with Archbishop Moeller on Dwight C. "Smokey" Ballenger Field in Memorial Stadium on the campus of Otterbein University.

1st quarter:

The Moeller offense drove the length of the field, but a Danny Scelza interception in the end zone stopped the momentum. During the very next Moeller drive, the Crusaders again marched deep into Wildcats territory, only to watch Mitchell Puhalsky also intercept the Moeller quarterback in the end zone.

2nd quarter:

After a scoreless first quarter, the Saint Ignatius offense took advantage of those impressive defensive stops by scoring on a 20-yard touchdown reception by tight end Jack Cannon and the ensuing extra-point kick by Patrick Otter.

Saint Ignatius' gifted tailback Jahadge "Bo" Floyd galloped for two 2 touchdowns, the defense played extremely physical and bullied the Moeller offense, and another Scelza interception put the offense in business for a field goal by Otter, closing out the scoring in the first half.

3rd quarter:

Linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, a name to remember, my friends, will be in the dreams of the Moeller quarterback as Tommy was in the backfield during multiple plays. Seamus Cooney, playing both ways, left it all on the field by impacting the line on both sides on the ball.

"Both sides of ball came out sluggish, but the defense picked up the intensity and set the tone for the team during the remainder of the game," said Coach Cahill.

4th quarter:

Wildcats quarterback Pat Delahunty had a 30-yard touchdown scramble, but Moeller's offense finally got on track with two touchdowns passes and a field goal in the closing minutes.

A Nate Previts interception, the Wildcats' fourth pick off on the day, sealed the deal and a Delahunty kneel down sent the Wildcats home to Cleveland with a smile on their faces, as Saint Ignatius swept all three levels - Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity - from the Crusaders this weekend (SEE THE CORNER'S VARSITY GAME STORY FROM FRIDAY NIGHT).

NOTE: Patrick Otter had some booming punts, flipping the field every time.

Up next for Coach Paul Yappel's 7-1 JV Cats is next Saturday's (October 22) 10 AM matchup with the Bombers of Cincinnati St. Xavier at St. X.

NOTE: Coach Rodney Gallaway's Freshmen Football Wildcats also improved to 7-1 with a 21-14 victory over Archbishop Moeller's ninth graders this morning. The Freshmen Cats will be traveling to Erie (Pa.) Cathedral Prep on Thursday for a 6 PM kickoff in the city that time forgot. Looking forward to it.
