On a perfect Saturday evening in Aurora, Colorado, the Wildcats capped off a two-game trip to the Mile High City.

Regis Jesuit High School played hosted to Saint Ignatius, with both fan bases bringing plenty of fans.

Unexpected to all in attendance, the Jesuit showdown proved to be a defensive showdown. The Wildcats emerged with a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Raiders at Lou Kellogg Stadium.

Following a great day trip to Pike's Peak, the Soccer Cats played hard, but were certainly affected by the high elevation.

A handball in the box almost led to a deflating early setback for the Wildcats, as the Raiders received a penalty kick. But savvy goalkeeper Lodge Dils deflected the shot high and away from danger to keep the score knotted at 0.

The Wildcats prodded the Raiders' defense with lengthy passes in the first half, but to no avail. Tommy Marusic did manage a promising opportunity from the right side about 17 minutes into the contest, but the shot clanged off the post, drawing relieved sighs from the Regis Jesuit faithful.

The score remained tied at halftime. Head coach Mike McLaughlin '85 assured his charges to relax and play Wildcats soccer, which the Cats did in the second half.

Riley Houde found the back of the net on the lone goal of the game two minutes into the second. Marusic set up his teammate with a lengthy pass from the right corner.

The Raiders did not surrender easily, still managing some promising chances. Dils dove to his right to make a phenomenal save of AJ Abam at the 29 minute mark of the second.

As Mr. Larry Arthur said after the game, Dils might have been the MVP for the Wildcats in a grueling game that tested the team's will. Senior Patrick Strauss also played a big part on the defensive end.

Despite a couple of nice chances on offense, the Wildcats did not breakthrough again, leaving the final score at 1-0.

After the game, the Soccer Cats joined together with the alumni in attendance to sing the Alma Mater. The stirring rendition was a sight to behold.

Thanks are in order for all of the alumni who attending the game, including outstanding Colorado Rockies broadcaster Mr. Jack Corrigan '70, Mr. Jim Ginley '78, Mr. Mike Costello '12.

Following the Wildcats' successful Denver trip, the team stands at 12-0-2. The team takes on Twinsburg on Tuesday and Berea-Midpark on Saturday to round out the regular season.
