Cross Country Cats Finish 2nd in Midwest Meet of Champions

Solon and Saint Ignatius finish 1-2 in the team standings during Saturday's prestigious Midwest Meet of Champions at Hilliard Bradley High School

Posted By Mr. Eddie Dwyer, with anticipation of Sunday evening's annual Gallagher Report by Saint Ignatius' outstanding Head Cross Country Coach Dr. Mike Gallagher '71.

Solon, the top-ranked team in the coaches' state poll, had an overall team time of 1:21:08.11 and Ohio's seventh-ranked Cat Pack was second with a team time of 1:22:21.95.

The Wildcats' top five finishers in the featured event, The John Hammond "Race of Champions," were C.J. Ambrosio in eighth place at 15:57.12, Andrew Szendrey in 16th place at 16:23.22, Liam McGuire in 21st place at 16:31.26, Colin Caniglia in 28th place at 16:39.57, and Nick Saul in 34th place at 16:50.78.

Rounding out the 'Cats' scoring were Andrew Biehl, 16:58.86, and Pat Nolan, 17:25.45.   

The top time in the John Hammond "Race of Champions" was turned in by Zach Kreft of Buckeye Valley, an effort of 15:21.16.

Solon and defending state champion Saint Ignatius displayed the type of depth on Saturday that can pay significant dividends at the state level. Can you recall the State Champion Cat Pack of 2009?
