Cleveland, Ohio - Where the "Fighting Franconas" are about to give us an October Fest of their own.

Okay, I'll leave the Indians' fortunes up to the SIBN's Matt MacKenzie '18 and let you know what the pride of Ohio City is up to this week and weekend.

On Wednesday evening, in what will be the corner's first opportunity to see them play, the Saint Ignatius Freshmen Blue Football Team will host the Griffins from Akron Buchtel at 6 bells on Wasmer Field. Ah, those Ricky Powers teams from Buchtel.

Thursday night, the state and nationally acclaimed Soccer 'Cats will be on the pitch at Wasmer Field to face the Copley Indians. The action will get underway at 6 PM, as Coach Jim Brennan's outstanding Junior Varsity program takes on the JV Indians. The JV match will be followed by a Varsity encounter between Ohio's No. 1-ranked Wildcats and the state's 10th-ranked Indians.

Friday, Coach Chuck Kyle '69, his superb staff and the state's third-ranked Division I team, the 3-0 Varsity Football Wildcats, will board the buses for Novi, Michigan to face the 3-0 Shamrocks from Detroit Catholic Central. It will be a 7 PM matchup between programs who have each produced 11 state football championships.

The corner will be previewing the 'Cats and the Shamrocks on Tuesday night.

On Saturday, Saint Ignatius' Freshmen Football Wildcats will host the freshmen from Detroit Catholic Central at high noon on Wasmer Field, and the Junior Varsity Football 'Cats will follow at 1:30 PM with a JV game versus the Shamrocks, also on Wasmer Field.

Coach Dr. Mike Gallagher's defending state champion harriers will take their strong legs and tough minds to the annual Boardman Invitational at Boardman High School on Saturday. The bus leaves Saint Ignatius at 11 AM. Varsity runners should arrive by 11:45 AM and all Freshmen/JV/Open runners arrive by 12:30, if you are driving on your own.

The Varsity race is scheduled to start at 1 PM and the Freshmen/JV/Open race is slated for 1:30 PM.

Last, but certainly not least, the Wildcats' Men of the Links, aka Coach Brian Becker's Varsity Golf Program, will send their Varsity A and B teams to the annual St. Edward Invitational on Saturday at the storied Lakewood Country Club. Both schools' web sites have the tee-off time listed for 1 PM.

Coach Becker's Wildcats are coming off a solid performance at the Gilmour Academy Reese Alexander Invitational on the course at  Fowler's Mill. See the corner's post from earlier today.

Have a great and safe week and we'll see you at Wasmer Field and in Novi, Michigan.
