Jake Ryan, whose outstanding play at linebacker helped Saint Ignatius to an 11-1 record in the fall of 2009 and a state-record 10th Division I state championship in 2008, had a memorable spring practice season as a red-shirt freshman linebacker for the Michigan Wolverines.

After the Wolverines' spring game, Michigan head coach Brady Hoke said Ryan had a good spring and he referred to Jake's love of the game. Coach Hoke also spoke of how Jake brings something special to the field, an intensity you can feel.

Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison said Jake has done a good job improving every day and that the 2009 first-team All-Ohio and first team All-District honoree has shown energy and speed off the edge.

A young man the corner had the privilege and pleasure to cover during his high school career, we wish Jake all of the best this summer and fall.

Just FYI, the Michigan football web site reported that Jake displayed a nose for the action so often this spring that his helmet is already in need of a new paint job.
