THE WILDCATS' ICE HOCKEY TEAM KEEPS PACE IN THE RED NORTH: With standout junior captain and forward Paddy Spellacy and gifted sophomore center Miles McQuinn accounting for the goals, Coach Pat O'Rourke's Wildcats skated, shot and defended their way past Padua, 2-0, on Friday night at IceLand USA.

With the victory, Saint Ignatius improved to 22-5 and maintained its share of first place with St. Edward in the rugged Red North Division.

McQuinn struck at 12:03 of the second period and Spellacy lit the lamp at 7:22 of the third period. One of the top 1-2 scoring punches in the state, McQuinn and Spellacy have combined for more than 60 goals this season.

Led by senior goalie Josh Potts, Saint Ignatius turned in a solid effort defensively.

The 'Cats will return to IceLand USA tonight (Saturday) for a Red North Division game against Strongsville. The puck is scheduled to drop at 6:30.

Coach Pat O'Rourke's varsity hockey team remained in the upper echelon of the rugged Red North Division by defeating the Strongsville Mustangs, 8-1, on Saturday night at IceLand USA.

Sharing the wealth and sharpening their offense for the Red North's final run, the upcoming Baron Cup and the OHSAA tournament, the Wildcats (23-5) got two-goal efforts from Miles McQuinn, Liam Geither and Mike Abood. Also lighting the lamp were Paddy Spellacy and Colton Riemenschneider.

Senior Josh Potts saved 19 of the Mustangs' 20 shots on goal.

Up next for the 'Cats is a trip to Kent State on Friday night for a 5:30 match up with Walsh Jesuit. On Saturday, Coach O'Rourke's team returns home to Brooklyn's John M. Coyne Recreation Center to face the Lake Catholic Cougars at 4:45 p.m. The corner will have game coverage on the Memphis Avenue encounter with the Cougars.
