Derek Hren, Nathan Christian and the 400 yard free style relay team are among the leaders during Friday's prelims at the state swimming meet.

During this morning's Division I men's prelims, Saint Ignatius' Derek Hren put together second-place finishes in the 200 yard IM and the 100 breaststroke. Jack Pohlmann of Beavercreek was first in the 100 breaststroke at 55.39 and Derek's time was 55.62. The state record is 54.70 by Chris Ash of Firestone in 2005.

Nathan Christian posted a second place in the 50 free and Charlie Pophal tied for ninth place in that event. Peter Simcox was 10th in the 100 yard butterfly.

The Wildcats' 200 yard freestyle relay team finished seventh and the 200 yard medley relay team swam to third place.

And just in, Saint Ignatius' 400 yard free style relay team of Christian, Simcox, Pophal and Hren placed second in a time of 3:08.34. Centerville was first with a 3:06.63.

Friday's events for the Division I men are all prelims. Saturday's Division I swimming finals in Canton's C.T. Branin Natatorium are scheduled for 4 p.m.
