Congratulations go out to Saint Ignatius junior posts Derek Sloan and Alec Papesch for garnering second- and third-team honors, respectively, on the 2011-12 Associated Press All-Northeast Lakes District Division I basketball team.

Derek and Alec each averaged more than 12 points and more than 8 rebounds this season, and Derek rejected nearly 40 shots.

Also helping the Wildcats to a 16-6 record, a district-semifinal appearance and an eighth-place ranking in The Plain Dealer's Top 25 seven-county poll were special-mention selections Jack Tupa, a senior point guard who ran the offense and averaged 6 assists, and junior guard Francisco Santiago, who finished with multiple blocks and steals and averaged nearly 10 points per game.

Congratulations to all four young men and all of the best to Jack in his future endeavors.

*Tuning up for the 2012 OHSAA Track and Field season, Saint Ignatius' standout senior Mitch Baum won the 1600 Meter race in a PR time of 4:26.85 during Friday's SPIRE Scholastic Indoor Meet in Geneva.

The corner will previewing the Wildcats' promising spring season within the next seven-to-10 days.
