George DiCamillo, Saint Ignatius' brilliant two-time undefeated state champion, substantiated his top ranking in the nation on Sunday evening and he did it in one of the most prestigious and tradition-rich events in the country.

Competing for the United States All-Stars, George defeated three-time Pennsylvania state champion Nick Roberts of North Star, 10-5, in the 120-pound match of the 38th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic at the University of Pittsburgh's Fitzgerald Field House.

Referred to as "The Rose Bowl of Wrestling," Sunday's Dapper Dan saw the U.S. All-Stars dominate the Pennsylvania All-Stars, 34-9.

Counting his outstanding career at Saint Ignatius, George has now won 75 consecutive matches. The University of Virginia recruit was the only Ohio Division I state champion, at any weight class, to finish unbeaten this season.

Congratulations to George, his family, especially his dad Ralph who is an assistant coach for the Wildcats, Saint Ignatius head coach Mark Sullivan and the entire Wildcats wrestling program.

*Saint Ignatius' varsity track and field team got off to a solid start in the first outdoor outing of the spring, as the Wildcats finished a strong second to a very deep Solon team at Brunswick's annual Elite Meet on Saturday.

Jack Miller won the 3,200 event in 9:55.60 and the 'Cats' 4x400 relay ran a first-place time of 3:29.03. Saint Ignatius' 4x100 and 4x800 teams each placed second, and the 4x200 team finished third.

Some of the Wildcats' other highlights were a second-place by Keith Carmichael in the pole vault (13-6), second-place finishes by Drew Galang in the 800, Ryan Kray in the 400 and Zach Lozar in the shot put, and third-place efforts by Marquee Montgomery in the 100, Ray O'Brien in the long jump, Pat Jeffries in the 300 hurdles and Blake Thomas in the discus.

*Congratulations go out to the varsity lacrosse team, which opened its season on Saturday with a 7-1 triumph over a highly regarded North Allegheny program on the road. Up next for the 'Cats is Wednesday night's home opener against University School. The action gets underway at 7 on Wasmer Field.

*Pickerington High School Central, the newly crowned Division I state basketball champion, finished 26-2 en route to its title.

And one of the Tigers' setbacks was to Saint Ignatius, 66-65, in overtime in the Dunk 4 Diabetes Shootout on Jan. 29 at Walsh University.

In this corner's humble opinion, that was easily the most memorable game of the Wildcats' 2011-12 season - a 'Cats Classic.
