MOTHER NATURE MADE A GUEST APPEARANCE AT THE TALENT-RICH AMHERST REGIONAL ON FRIDAY NIGHT, BUT ONCE THE CLOUDS CLEARED COACH CHUCK KYLE'S VARSITY TRACK AND FIELD TEAM HAD TWO MORE RELAY TEAMS AND ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL QUALIFY FOR THE 2012 OHSAA STATE TRACK AND FIELD MEET.

Joining the Wildcats' outstanding 4x800 meter relay team and Blake Thomas (discus) in Columbus will be Saint Ignatius' 4x400 meter relay team of Lamar Kemp, Brendan Kobunski, Drew Galang and Tim McVey, which finished second on Friday night with an effort of 3:21.08. Also qualifying for state was the fourth-place 4x100 team of Matt McVey (Tim's younger brother), Dan Way, Sam D'Amico and Pat Jeffries (a time of 43.11) and Jack Miller, who finished fourth in the 3200 meter run at 9:31.89.

On Wednesday night, the 4x800 team of Mitch Baum, Vince Bartram, Jack Miller and Drew Galang took first place in a time of 7:52.87 and Blake Thomas was third in the discus with a state-qualifying throw of 178-06.

Drew Galang just missed qualifying in the 800 meter run on Friday night.

Saint Ignatius finished fourth at the Amherst regional with a team score of 42 points. Led by its gifted sprinter Anthony Young, St. Edward took first place with 88 points. Berea was second with 56 points and Toledo Whitmer placed third with a 49-point effort.

A BRIGHT FUTURE: Congratulations go out to Saint Ignatius freshman tennis player Nate Griffin, who advanced to the quaterfinals during Friday's state matches before being defeated in two sets by Zach Mueck of Lakota East.

There is certainly no shame in losing to Mueck, who is a two-time Division I state runner-up and a young man with more than 100 career victories.

AND JUST A REMINDER THAT THE 'CATS' 19-7 REGIONAL CHAMPION VARSITY VOLLEYBALL TEAM WILL FACE LAKOTA WEST IN THE STATE QUARTERFINALS ON SATURDAY AT CINCINNATI ARCHBISHOP MOELLER HIGH SCHOOL. FOR A LINK TO THE 1:30 P.M. WEB BROADCAST OF THE MATCH, CLICK ON THE SAINT IGNATIUS BROADCASTING NETWORK SITE.
