The Saint Ignatius administration and football family would like to welcome Mr. Paul Yappel to Coach Chuck Kyle's varsity staff and to the Jesuit Preparatory School's English Department.

In joining the Wildcats' veteran and talent-rich staff, Paul will be assisting Adam Rini with the offensive line and will also do some work with the tight ends.

A graduate of Padua Franciscan High School, Paul brings veteran coaching experience to Saint Ignatius after assisting on the varsity football staff of the always sound Archbishop Hoban Knights. Paul also taught English at Archbishop Hoban and is no stranger to Coach Kyle, as a few years back he served an internship under the Wildcats' legendary head coach.

THE CAMP OF CHAMPIONS: What is without question the cream of the summer camp crop for area high school quarterbacks and receviers is returning to Saint Ignatius' Wasmer Field.

Known as the "Camp of Champions Elite Quarterback/Receiver Academy," the camp will be held from Monday, June 25 through Wednesday, June 27. The times each day will be 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. The Camp of Champions is open to all aspiring quarterbacks and receivers in grades 9 through 12 and, as always, will feature players from high schools throughout The Plain Dealer's seven-county coverage area.

This is an opportunity for young quarterbacks and receivers to be taught and coached by some of the most storied names in Ohio and the nation.

Heading the Camp of Champions staff are Coach Kyle of the Ohio-record 11-time Division I state champion Wildcats and his veteran offensive coordinator Nick Restifo, who has developed the skills of a who's who list of all-state quarterbacks; Joe Perella, who was not only a highly successful coach at Cathedral Latin School, Beachwood and University School, but also brought his uncanny knowledge of offense to Florida State, Louisville, Cincinnati, John Carroll and Case Western Reserve on the college level, and to Winnipeg of the Canadian Football League; Former NFL All-Pro quarterback, Michigan standout QB and current Saint Ignatius quarterbacks coach Elvis Grbac; Strongsville head football coach Russ Jacques, an area legend who also coached on the college level at West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and Northwestern. Russ was an outstanding quarterback at Parma Senior High School in the 1960s; Former Saint Ignatius and John Carroll University football great Tom Arth, who played quarterback in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts and is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at John Carroll; Lakewood head football coach Ron Lewis, who honed his coaching skills under Coach Jacques for some of the most talented teams in Strongsville Mustangs history and later did a great job rebuilding the football program at Rocky River; St. Edward receivers coach and former Cathedral Latin School baseball standout Pete Ducic; Joe Brozak, an area household coaching name at Case Western Reserve University, St. Joseph, Collinwood, University School, St. Edward, Willoughby South, etc.; and Cathedral Latin School Hall of Fame inductee and former Latin and Georgia Tech football standout Tim Hyland. Tim's son, Jack, is a promising junior wide receiver for the Saint Ignatius varsity.

Cost of the camp is $80 (includes camp T-shirt) and checks should be made payable to: Camp of Champions-Elite QB/Receiver Camp. *All participants are asked to bring a helmet and a certified trainer will be on duty all three days.

****For any questions on the camp, please contact Coach Restifo at 216-651-0222, Ext. 502 or nrestifo@ignatius.edu

As Coach Perella emphasized, the Camp of Champions will teach the student athlete how to perform like a champion. It is a skills camp that will provide the players with techniques and drills that will assist them in self-correcting during the high school season.
