Just a final reminder that the prestigious Camp of Champions will take place at Wasmer Field tomorrow (Monday) through Wednesday. The camp, which is for quarterbacks and receivers in grades 9 through 12 and is open to all area schools, will run from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. each day. Cost of the camp is $80 (includes a camp T-shirt) and checks are to be made payable to Camp of Champions. Participants can register and pay their check as late as the first day of camp (Monday). All players are asked to bring a helmet and there will be a certified trainer on hand each day.

The Camp of Champions is without question the premier camp in Greater Cleveland, if not the entire state, a camp that develops sound fundamentals under the guidance of a who’s who list of coaches (see the corner’s story from June 6, which is posted below). Each quarterback and receiver will receive individual instruction and will be evaluated individually. The Camp of Champions teaches techniques and drills to help young athletes develop self-correcting skills.

*As we did last year, the corner will provide daily coverage on the Camp of Champions. We will report on the Wildcats who are participating in the camp, as well as some of the other top players in the area. For any questions on the camp, please contact Saint Ignatius’ veteran offensive coordinator Nick Restifo at 216-651-0222, Ext. 502.

*And, in case you missed it, the corner reported on Kevin Kavalec's commitment to Boston College on Thursday night, not Saturday. On Friday morning we reported on Mike Cray's well-deserved honor of being voted as Coach Chuck Kyle's third captain for the 2012 season (See the stories below).

*The final week of Saint Ignatius' football mini-camps will take place on July 23rd through the 27th, with the junior varsity reporting at 3 p.m. and the varsity at 4:30. Please note that the JV and varsity camp scheduled for June 29 has been moved to July 27. Why? Well on June 29th, Coach Kyle '69 and soccer coach Mike McLaughlin '85, men who have developed nationally acclaimed programs, will be honored by the Lake County Captains. For details on tickets for the Captains' game that night, contact the Wildcats' Athletic Department.

*Two-a-day football sessions begin on July 30 and the highly regarded Solon Comets, led by Michigan State recruit Darian Hicks, will visit Wasmer Field on August 7 for practice sessions and drills against the Wildcats. The first official scrimmage is August 10 at Twinsburg and on August 17 the 'Cats will travel to legendary Fawcett Stadium (our home away from home) for the annual preseason Jamboree with Canton McKinley. As always, Solon, Twinsburg's Tigers and McKinley's Bulldogs have some big-time athletes.

Rounding the corner and heading home.

Pretty soon I'll have to change that to a deep route. On second thought, I'll leave the deep routes to Siragusa and Co.
