Coach Sean O'Toole's varsity basketball program has reported that Saint Ignatius senior post/forward Derek Sloan has been offered a full scholarship from Bryant University in Rhode Island. The Bryant Bulldogs are a member of the Northeast Conference.

Derek has not committed, but he will make an official visit to Bryant in September.

In helping the Wildcats to a 16-6 record last season, the versatile Sloan (6-foot-5) averaged 13.1 points and 8.8 rebounds. Derek also blocked 34 shots, made 13 steals, shot 50 percent from the field on 2-pointers and nearly 70 percent from the free-throw line.

A player with exceptional leaping ability, Derek was an inside and outside presence last season en route to garnering Division I All-Northeast Lakes District honors and Honorable Mention All-Ohio recognition from the Associated Press.

*Coach O'Toole and Saint Ignatius assistant coach Kirk Culler also told the corner today that Wildcats' 6-7 All-District senior post Alec Papesch has received a scholarship offer from Gardner-Webb in Boiling, Springs NC. The Runnin' Bulldogs are a member of the Big South Conference.

"Pappy," as Alec is known to his teammates, is coming off a junior season that saw him average 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds. He shot an impressive 57.7 percent from the field, made 12 steals, blocked 11 shots and took 14 charges.
