Just a reminder that along with Saturday night's varsity football showdown with the Mentor Cardinals at Byers Field (see the corner's preview from Wednesday morning), several of the Wildcats' other student athletes will be in action this weekend.

Dr. Mike Gallagher's cross country program, which is off to an impressive start, will have runners competing at both the Walsh Jesuit Tomahawk Run and the always challenging Tiffin Carnival.

The Tomahawk run will include an Open race at 10:30 a.m., a junior varsity race at 11:30 a.m., and a freshmen race at 12:30 p.m.

At the Tiffin Carnival, the Varisty B will run at 3:30 p.m. and one hour later the Varsity A will race.

Saint Ignatius' varsity soccer team (6-0), ranked No. 1 in both the area and state coaches polls and 10th in the NSCAA national poll, travels to Dublin Jerome on Saturday for junior varsity (noon) and varsity (2 p.m.) matches with the Celtics.

Coach Brian Becker's golf team has two impressive competitions coming up - the Walsh Jesuit Invitational on Saturday morning at 8 and the prestigious Kiely Cup on Monday at noon in the Canterbury Golf Club. Saint Ignatius is the defending Kiely Cup Champion.

And last, but certainly not least, the Wildcats' junior varsity football team will board the buses Monday afternoon and head to Mentor for a game against the Cardinals' jayvees at 5 p.m.

Yes, there is always something for everyone when it comes to Saint Ignatius' highly successful and versatile student athletes.
