The Brennan Book: With the 5-0 victory over St. Edward's jayvees on Wednesday night, Wildcats' JV soccer coach Jim Brennan '85 now has a career record of 208-23-22. Jim has been coaching at Saint Ignatius for 20 years and this is his 17th season as the head JV coach. His current jayvees stand 9-1.

Coach Brennan has an impressive .822 winning percentage (.909 is you add ties for a non-losing %). And, as anyone who was in attendance at St. Edward's Coughlin Field last night can attest to, Jim also plays a mean bagpipe.

Among the 296 career victories that Wildcats head varsity coach Mike McLaughlin '85 has compiled are 21 wins versus St. Edward. After last night's test of wills 0-0 tie with the Eagles (see the corner's story below), Mike's record against the Eagles is 21-2-2 (14-2-2 regular season and 7-0 in the playoffs). All of the losses/ties were on the road.

The soccer 'Cats travel to Massillon Jackson on Saturday, where they will face the Polar Bears on all three levels - freshmen and junior varsity at 10 a.m., and the varsity at high noon. Saint Ignatius has eliminated the Polar Bears in the playoffs in each of the last four years and also in 2004, so as Wildcats veteran assistant coach Joe Popelka '84 pointed out, there is always some added emotion to the games.

In the Wildcats' 2010 trip to Massillon Jackson, Matt Foldesy '12 scored the game winner in the last minute in a 2-1 triumph. Last year, Saint Ignatius defeated the Polar Bears, 2-0, at home in the regular season and then 1-0 in overtime in the regional semifinals.

*Just a reminder that Coach Chuck Kyle's varsity football team, ranked No. 1 in the area and state polls, travels to Erie (Pa.) on Friday night for a 7:30 encounter with a very solid and talented McDowell team (see the corner's preview below). Coach Ryan Franzinger's junior varsity team will face McDowell's jayvees on Saturday morning at 11 on Wasmer Field. The Saint Ignatius Student Broadcasting Network will have live coverage on both the varsity and junior varsity games, with John Fanta '13 on the lead call.

*Coach Mike Gallagher's cross country team will be competing in two events on Saturday - the All-Catholic Invitational in Indian Riffle Park at 9 a.m., and the Cloverleaf Invitational at noon, and Coach Brian Becker's golf team is scheduled to swing the clubs at Saturday's St. Edward Invitational in Lakewood Country Club at 1 p.m.
