The Wildcats have their eyes set on another State Title after coming away with a first place finish at Sectionals.

CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Oh - The race to the State Championship is back on for the Golf Cats. On Monday, the Wildcats took on Quail Hollow, a par 72 course that sits at 6723 yards. The team consisted of senior captains Nick Piesen, Michael O’Leary and Connor Malacki and juniors Bradley Chill and Julian Dugan.

The Cats shot 295, backed by an awe-inspiring performance from Indiana University commit Nick Piesen. Piesen sunk a 20-foot birdie on the 11th hole, which was his second hole of the day, and from that point on never looked back. Piesen finished the day with a 70 and took first place in the event.

Captain Michael O’Leary also had himself quite the day. O’Leary struggled to start the day, going +5 through seven holes. On the 17th hole, O’Leary’s eighth of the day, he hit the green in regulation. O’Leary missed his birdie putt by a matter of inches and went on to tap in for par. O’Leary finished off his front nine with another par and then went on to have a fabulous back nine. O’Leary finished the day shooting +4 at 76.

The most crucial hole of the day for the Cats was the 13th hole. This hole was a dog leg left par four that sat at 396 yards. All five team members reached the green in regulation and finished with pars. This hole got things going for the Cats as some of the guys struggled to find their footing through the first three holes.

On Monday, October 10, the Cats will take on Pine Hills, a par 72 course that sits at 6700 yards. The team will have six players and the Cats will add senior Braeden Hilditch to the roster. The Golf Cats will look to claim a spot for the OHSAA State Tournament.
