The Hockey Cats open the regular season this weekend with back-to-back games vs. St. Ignatius of Chicago.

OHIO CITY, Oh - Wildcat Hockey is back! The Cats wrapped up their preseason last weekend with a 4-0 record and are hungry for the regular season to begin. They started in Pittsburgh battling the Meadville Bulldogs, defeating them 3-2. They returned to their home John M. Coyne Recreation Center to host the Ramblers of Erie Cathedral Prep and cut the game early with a score of 4-0 early into the second period.

The following weekend, the Cats stayed local to battle against the Olentangy Liberty Patriots, resulting in a 4-0 victory for Saint Ignatius. The next day, they traveled to the East side of Cleveland to beat the University School Preppers by a final score of 4-1. “We had a good strong forecheck that led to some good chances,” says Captain Owen Zawadzki. “the boys need to bury a few more next time.”

The Wildcats open the regular season against another very competitive St. Ignatius; the Wolfpack will travel down to Brooklyn, OH, from Chicago to step into the Cats’ building. The two teams battled early last season, a year ago, but the Wolfpack came out victorious on both occasions, defeating the Wildcats of Saint Ignatius by the scores of 3-1 and 8-5.

Both games and teams showed a lot of offense and outstanding skill and sportsmanship. The Wildcats had a solid week of practice in preparation for the St. Ignatius Wolfpack, sharing the same school name and similar speed as the Saint Ignatius Wildcats.

Puck drop will be at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at John M. Coyne for game one of the season. Both teams will lace up their skates again for a 9:40 a.m. contest at OBM Arena on Sunday morning. Both games will be broadcasted on the SIBN.
